Deadly motorcycle crash near State FairgroundsOne person is dead and another is injured after a crash Friday morning blocks from the State Fairgrounds.

Editor’s note: In their initial report, the Minnesota State Patrol identified the deceased driver as “Jacob Isaac Lewer,” but later issued a correction identifying them as “Samuel Kelly Lewer.”

A late-night crash involving a motorcycle just blocks from the Minnesota State Fairgrounds has left one person dead and another injured.

Shortly before 10:30 p.m. Thursday, the Minnesota State Patrol says a Yamaha motorcycle struck an SUV.

As the motorcycle was headed north on Snelling Avenue/Highway 51 in Falcon Heights, it ran into a Volkswagen Touareg that was turning east onto Garden Avenue.

The driver of the motorcycle, identified as 27-year-old Samuel Kelly Lewer of Coon Rapids, was pronounced dead at the scene. A 25-year-old woman was also on the motorcycle and was injured but is expected to survive, according to the State Patrol.

The driver of the Volkswagen wasn’t hurt.

The crash remains under investigation but authorities say neither person on the motorcycle was wearing a helmet.
