IDENTIFIED: Pilot killed in Merced County crash named

FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – The Merced County Coroner’s Office has identified the person who died in a plane crash on Tuesday near Los Banos.

Deputies say they responded to the area of Canyon Road and I-5 in Los Banos around 7 p.m. after reports of a plane that had crashed.

When deputies arrived, they found the pilot dead at the scene. The pilot was the only person in the aircraft.

The coroner’s office identified the pilot as 31-year-old Mahesh Chigurupati from Santa Clara. 

The crash is under investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration.
