Viking Moon Is the Vikings vs. Werewolves Epic You Didn’t Know You Needed

Who doesn’t love a good Viking epic or a terrifying werewolf story? Someone was bound to come along and blend the two together, and that’s finally happened with the new Image Comics series Viking Moon. At long last, we have the real answer for why the Vikings never settled permanently in North America.

IGN can exclusively debut new cover art and interior pages from Viking Moon #1. Check out our extended preview of the first issue in the slideshow gallery below:

Viking Moon is written by Joe Pruett (Negative Burn) & Marcelo Frusin (Hellblazer). The first issue features covers by Frusin, Philippe Xavier, Dalabor Talajic, and Möritat.

Here’s Image’s official description of Viking Moon:

VIKINGS versus WEREWOLVES! The real reason the Vikings fled North America! This barbaric adventure begins in 1003, when Leif Erikson established a Viking settlement in Vneland (present day Newfoundland), a strange new world of plenty. But this untamed frontier is populated by more than an indigenous people… This is something unnatural that stalks the night… Twenty years after the original expedition ended in disaster, a new attempt to settle this wilderness is made. Ulf and his hardened tribe of Vikings soon discover that the whisper of creatures who are both human and beast are not primitive legend, but death-bringing reality.

“Viking Moon is a project I’ve spent several years researching and crafting, waiting to find that special someone who could bring it to life with me. To my ultimate pleasure, that someone was Marcelo Frusin!” Pruett tells IGN. “Marcelo is one of the most accomplished artists in the industry and one of my personal all-time favorites! Discovering that he had the same passion for our source material (Vikings and Werewolves!) only cemented to me that he was my perfect partner-in-crime for this tale! I think the work he is doing is some of the best of his career. So, if you love Vikings and Werewolves as much as the two of us do, you are in for a treat!”

In other comic book news, we’ve got an exclusive preview of the Star Wars/Tarantino mash-up Galactic, and you can learn more about how Bane has been reinvented for DC’s Absolute Universe.
