INDIANAPOLIS — After rejecting two earlier proposals this summer, members of UFCW Local 700 have voted to approve a new three-year contract with Kroger covering more than 8,000 grocery workers at 68 stores across central Indiana.
Union officials announced Wednesday that 56 percent of members voted in favor of the agreement, which includes retroactive pay, wage increases, and expanded health benefits.
“By sticking together in solidarity, our members were able to secure a contract that not only raises their pay, but also protects health benefits and more,” UFCW Local 700 President Tracy Bartak said in a statement. “This is a huge win for all our members in Central Indiana locations.”
The deal provides retroactive pay dating back to June 1 and increases top pay by $2.75 over the life of the agreement. It also creates a new pay bracket for Senior Utility Clerks, raises premium pay, and improves contract language designed to maximize work hours.
Health care benefits remain unchanged in cost, with no increases to weekly co-premiums. The agreement also adds coverage for spouses, transplant procedures, and increases short-term disability pay.
The vote followed months of bargaining after members turned down contract offers in May and July.
