SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — A traffic stop in Salt Lake City led to a vehicle rollover on Redwood Road near I-80 after the driver attempted to flee from police.

According to Lt. Cameron Roden with Utah Highway Patrol, the traffic stop started at about 1600 W North Star Drive. An individual fled from the traffic stop on foot, and then the vehicle fled.

Officers were able to take the individual into custody, but they did not pursue the vehicle. The vehicle turned south on Redwood Road, and it hit a construction barrel. Even though troopers were not chasing, the vehicle was moving too fast, so it lost control as it was turning onto the I-80 on ramp.

The vehicle rolled over an embankment and crashed. It can be seen resting on the embankment after the crash in the photos below.

After the crash, two female occupants fled the vehicle on foot. Troopers set up containment and took both individuals into custody as well. No major injuries were reported, but the driver and passengers will be evaluated by medical services.

The investigation into this incident is ongoing, but Roden told ABC4.com that the driver is likely to face charges, and the passengers may be charged depending on the results of the investigation.
