NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Investigations into separate August murders have resulted in three arrests by the New Orleans Police Department.
On Thursday, Aug. 28, the NOPD announced three people have been taken into custody accused of committing homicides in New Orleans East, Seventh Ward and the French Quarter.
The first incident happened in the 7800 block of Almonaster Avenue on Aug. 9. NOPD officers report 23-year-old Helmer Valeriano is facing a charge of second degree murder.
He has since been booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center.
The second homicide happened on Aug. 12 in the 2100 block of Allen Street.
NOPD reported that at 9:20 p.m. on that Tuesday, they responded to a triple shooting in the area. As a result, a man and 37-year-old Brent McDonald was taken to a hospital by EMS.
McDonald was pronounced. The third victim, 17-year-old De’Von Franklin, was taken to the hospital by car but died from his injuries hours later.
Through an investigation, detectives identified 17-year-old Ra’Quine Butler as the suspect. He was located in Metairie and booked into the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center on a charge of double homicide
Butler is awaiting extradition.
The third homicide happened on Aug. 28 in the 600 block of Iberville Street.
Around 3:12 a.m. on that Sunday, NOPD officers were called to a shooting in the area and found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to a hospital where he later died.
Through investigation, NOPD officers identified 26-year-old Timothy Hall as the suspect. He was arrested and booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center on a charge of second-degree murder.
