Steph Curry and renowned chef to debut San Francisco steakhouse

(KRON) — Stephen Curry and acclaimed San Francisco chef Michael Mina are teaming up to open a steakhouse in downtown later this fall, it was announced in a press release this week. Bourbon Steak San Francisco is set to open inside The Westin St. Francis hotel this October.

Complementing the steakhouse, The Eighth Rule is a bourbon-driven bar developed by Curry. It is the Warriors superstar’s first endeavor in the hospitality industry, the release said. The bar comes two years after Curry launched his Gentleman’s Cut Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey.

“To me, there’s nothing better than getting together with those you love over a glass of bourbon. That’s where the magic happens,” said Curry, a two-time NBA MVP. “Creating my own bourbon brand paired with my friendship with Michael is like a master class in hospitality! I’ve always dreamt of creating my own little haven to bring people together, and now we have the perfect location. I cannot wait for people to come and see what we have in store.”

This won’t be the first time Chef Mina has collaborated with a Curry. The NBA superstar’s wife, Ayesha, and Mina co-own International Smoke in San Francisco’s SoMa neighborhood — a restaurant even former President Barack Obama ate at.

Bourbon Steak San Francisco is part of a resurgence of Union Square that Mayor Daniel Lurie has been pushing for since he took office this year. The mayor said attracting businesses like this is vital for the city’s economic recovery.

“San Francisco is seeing real momentum, and the opening of Bourbon Steak and The Eighth Rule in Union Square will contribute to our downtown comeback and add to our city’s vibrant food scene,” Lurie said in a statement. “Steph Curry and Michael Mina have been champions of our city, and I am so excited that they are continuing to double down on our comeback.”
