Salmonella outbreak: 14 states affected, 18 people hospitalized

(FOX40.COM) — A multistate outbreak of Salmonella infections has led to a recall of eggs on Wednesday.

People from across 14 states have gotten sick, and 18 people have been hospitalized, according to the Centers for Disease Control. Officials said that 73 out of the 95 cases are coming from California.

Large Brown Cage Free “Sunshine Yolks” eggs from Country Eggs, LLC were recalled.

Everyone is being asked not to eat, serve or sell the product at this time. People are also being asked to either throw the eggs away or return them to the place of purchase.

It is also essential to wash areas where the eggs were located with soapy water or a dishwasher, according to the CDC.

Salmonella symptoms include:

• High fever higher than 102°F
• Diarrhea and bloody diarrhea that lasts for longer than 3 days
• Vomiting to the point where liquids can’t be kept down
• Signs of dehydration

The CDC said that concerns and questions regarding the outbreak should be directed to the state’s health department.
