ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Republican officials and community supporters gathered at Memorial Hall in Rockford to endorse Dillan Vancil’s campaign for the 17th Congressional District.

The gathering aimed to showcase growing Republican unity in Winnebago County and to build momentum for Vancil’s campaign against incumbent Democrat Eric Sorensen.

“I want to bring my values and my leadership to represent everybody in the 17th district,” Vancil stated during his speech.

Vancil highlighted his experience as a business owner and vice president of his local school board, contrasting it with Sorensen’s record.

“The biggest difference between Eric Sorensen and myself is I’ve signed the bottom right hand corner of a paycheck,” he said.

Vancil also addressed local issues such as landfill management and energy independence. He proposed exploring technology to burn waste and generate energy, which he believes could lower electricity bills.

Vancil criticized current economic conditions, citing high interest rates and the cost of living as major concerns. He expressed support for reducing interest rates to boost the economy.

Dillan Vancil expressed his support for President Trump’s decision to send troops to Chicago to address crime.

“Should have happened a long time ago.” Vancil said, “I absolutely support Trump in bringing in the National Guard in Chicago. The city there, the crime continues to rise. They reclassified crime. So it looks like on paper that the crime levels are down. They’re not. Chicago is a disaster, and Trump is going to do something about it.”
