Around 6 p.m. on Tuesday, August 26, Boone Police responded to a report of a crash at the intersection of Shadowline Drive and Blowing Rock Road. According to witnesses, a Toyota pickup truck struck a motorcycle and then drove off without stopping.
Thanks to a tip from someone at the scene, officers found both the driver and the vehicle in a nearby parking lot. The driver, identified as 41-year-old Susan Stelling, was arrested and charged with several offenses, including felony hit-and-run, failure to report a crash, failure to yield, having an open alcohol container in the vehicle, and littering.
Stelling was taken before a Watauga County Magistrate and given a $10,000 secured bond. She is currently being held at the Watauga County Detention Center.
Police have not released the current condition of the motorcyclist.
