The parade is scheduled for Sept. 6 at noon on 18th Street. Organizers said the plan in place is to ensure everyone is safe and can enjoy the parade without fear.
“We are going to have volunteers throughout the parade route to help secure areas. Also, if they see any immigration agents, we’re going to be communicating throughout.“ said Vicky Logo, United Merchants Of Pilsen Chamber Of Commerce.
This year, the parade will honor Rigoberto Gonzalez. He was a beloved co-founder of the United Merchants of Pilsen Chamber of Commerce.
Gonzalez was also known as “Mr. G.”
Leaders say he was a life-long champion for small businesses, working families and the community. Up until his final day, he remained dedicated to empowering Pilsen.
The parade will extend from Newberry and 18th, to 18th and Wolcott.
Parade goers can expect music, culture and tradition.
Of course, Chicago police will be at the parade for general safety purposes. However, they are not allowed to assist ICE.
