Like many rankings, the top 10 is filled with IVY League schools like Yale, Harvard and Princeton.
UC Berkeley did not rank high relative to other publications’ top colleges list. Niche had the East Bay school No. 48 — lower than rival UCLA at No. 20. Berkeley was ranked as the ninth-best public university on Niche’s list.
In its 2025 top schools list, also released this week, Forbes had UC Berkeley much higher at No. 5 overall, even ahead of Harvard University. Stanford was rated No. 4 on the Forbes list.
College Niche ranked based on “rigorous analysis of academic, admissions, financial, and student life data from the U.S. Department of Education.” The ranking also used millions of reviews from students and alumni to determine its list.
