The machines are available only at Hard Rock Casino Rockford and honor the Rockford Peaches, a team that captured the city’s spirit and national attention from 1943 to 1954. The Peaches won four league championships and three pennants, and their story was immortalized in the 1992 film ‘A League of Their Own’ and reimagined in the 2022 Amazon Prime series of the same name.
“This project allowed us to do something truly special for our community,” said Geno Iafrate, President of Hard Rock Casino Rockford. “We want to honor the phenomenal women who changed the game of baseball and ensure their contributions are remembered.”
“I’ve never been so thrilled to see that somebody recognized that us women could play baseball,” said Maybelle Blair, a 98-year-old former AAGPBL player who attended the unveiling event.
The unveiling comes as women’s baseball prepares for a resurgence. The new Women’s Professional Baseball League (WPBL) is slated to debut in 2026, and Rockford will host the Women’s Baseball World Cup the same year.
Efforts are also underway to build an International Women’s Baseball Museum on the south side of Rockford, where the Rockford Peaches once played ball.
