BLOOMFIELD, Ind. — August 27, 2025
No charges will be filed in connection with the death of a Martinsville Police Department K-9 after a state police investigation, authorities announced Monday.
The case involved Patrol Officer Michelle Weaver and the death of K-9 Sunny, according to a news release from the Indiana State Police Bloomington District. Martinsville Police Chief Rick Lang requested the investigation after the dog’s death on July 30.
First Sgt. Brad Stille of ISP determined the incident occurred in Greene County, placing jurisdiction under Prosecutor Jarrod Holtsclaw. After reviewing the completed investigation, Holtsclaw declined to file charges.
State police said their role was limited to the criminal investigation and noted that any administrative or internal decisions regarding Officer Weaver would be handled by the Martinsville Police Department.
Questions outside of the criminal investigation were directed to the department.
