“Regional auctions have been a popular and efficient adaptation,” Land said. “Bidders can be at the sales for multiple counties at a single event.”
Auctions are conducted alphabetically by county. The public auction catalog is available at cosl.org, along with a buyer’s guide, applicable statutes and video tutorials for researching parcels and participating in the auction.
Land noted that since 2023, redemption of delinquent parcels must be completed by 4 on the last business day before the sale date. Once a parcel is sold at auction, it cannot be redeemed.
Bidders must register before placing a bid and present a federal or state ID. Payment must be made in full at the auction site by check, credit card or debit card; cash is not accepted.
Bidding begins at the amount of taxes, penalties and interest owed. Winning bidders are also responsible for 2024 property taxes, due to the county collector by Oct. 15.
“Property taxes help fund schools, roads, libraries and public services including ambulances,” Land said. “Everyone benefits from paying those taxes.”
Parcels not sold will move to the post-auction sales list 30 days later and may be purchased through an online auction.
Delinquent owners can redeem their property online at cosl.org or by mail. Within 30 days of an auction, redemptions must be made with certified funds or in cash at the Commissioner of State Lands office in Little Rock.
