Wet weather and flood threat linger

SALT LAKE COUNTY (ABC4) — Happy Wednesday, Utah! Monsoon moisture is sticking around a bit longer in the Beehive State, but things will start winding down as moisture continues moving northward.

More scattered showers and thunderstorms are on deck for northern Utah, but they’ll be more isolated in southern Utah. The further north you go, the better chance there is of precipitation.

Even though southern Utah won’t see as much moisture as the north, flash flooding will still be a concern for the outdoor recreation areas where the flash flood threat is in the “Possible” category. Flooding could be seen elsewhere as well; the Weather Prediction Center has the entire state under a “Marginal” risk. The northernmost part of the state like Cache Valley and Box Elder will be under a “Slight” risk, which is a step up from the marginal risk across the rest of the state.

Temperatures will remain on the cooler side for today with daytime highs in the upper 70s to low 80s for most, with warm spots in the upper 80s to low 90s. However, cloud coverage and rain showers will cap daytime heating in some places before reaching those temperatures, depending on the timing.

Temperatures will take their time warming back up through the week. Thursday’s temperatures stay similar to Wednesday’s, if not a couple degrees warmer. Thursday also brings isolated showers and thunderstorms, but mainly in northern and eastern Utah. Things start drying out Friday, but lingering moisture may spell a few final thunderstorms. Friday will still be below average with temperatures in the low 80s for most.

Things look to clear out for the weekend as high pressure builds. We’ll keep you posted on the latest updates in our 4Warn Weather forecast both on-air and online, we are Good4Utah!
