Abilene Therapy Dogs is a local organization made up of certified therapy animals and volunteer handlers. The group was invited to the center to help celebrate the event and provide companionship to residents.
Seniors petted and interacted with the dogs during the visit, enjoying a moment of calm and connection.
“This is our first time here with Rose Park Senior Center,” said Val Petronella, a volunteer with the organization. “I hope we get invited back. It’s been a great group. They are celebrating National Dog Day, so we’re here and excited to be here with them.”
The therapy dogs also make weekly appearances at the Abilene Mall every Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
