According to Plan b Burger Bar’s Facebook page, the Springfield location, along with restaurants in Hartford and West Hartford, will close its doors by Sunday, August 31, after the company chose not to renew its leases.
Founder and CEO Allie J. Gamble said the decision was part of a strategic realignment meant to balance responsibility with maintaining the experience that has defined the brand.
“This decision reflects a balance between fiscal responsibility and staying true to the experience our guests and teams deserve,” Gamble said in a statement. “Plan b is here to stay. This period in time will be used to step in closer and stay focused on what we do best, bringing people together over great food, bourbon, and beer. We’re making sure the next chapter of our story is even stronger.”
At its peak, Plan b operated 11 restaurants across four states. Following the closures, the brands will continue serving customers at their locations in Milford, Glastonbury, and Simsbury, Connecticut. The company will maintain its focus on certified Angus beef burgers, boutique bourbon, and American craft beer.
“This isn’t just about restaurants closing, it’s about honoring what those places meant to people,” Gamble said. “Our goal now is to carry that same energy and connection into the restaurants we continue to own and operate, while holding deep gratitude for the communities that helped us grow. This decision does make us smaller, but it lays the foundation for a stronger, more deeply connected future.”
All employees at the closing restaurants will receive severance pay, the restaurant said in its announcement, and leadership is working to place staff at other Plan b locations. Gift cards will continue to be honored at all remaining restaurants.
Plan b, founded in Connecticut, has earned national recognition over the years. Food & Wine readers ranked its burgers among the best in the country, while Zagat named it “Best Bang for Your Buck.” Inc. Magazine also recognized the company as one of the fastest-growing food and beverage businesses and a leading job creator in the state.
“Our restaurants have been the backdrop for thousands of stories, from first dates to last-call bourbons. As we turn the page, we want to close this chapter with the same gratitude and energy that we opened it with,” Gamble added.
The brand has also collected dozens of “Best Burger” awards across the region and even gained international attention when Gamble was invited to speak at the United Nations’ World Summit on Innovation & Entrepreneurship.
