Off-duty LPSO employee spots stolen property on the way home from work
LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) — A Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office employee helped solve a crime while off the clock, authorities said.

The sheriff’s office received a report Aug. 23 of a stolen trailer carrying several pieces of lumber taken from the 300 block of Sidney Martin Road in Lafayette.

The property has been returned to its owner after an off-duty Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office Real Time Crime Center Agent located the stolen items on his way home from work, officials said.

The trailer and its contents, valued at about $7,500, were confirmed to be those items involved in the theft. One suspect was identified and located by patrol deputies.

John Overton Young, 39, of Lafayette was arrested and charged with theft. He has been released on $5,000 bond.
