The protestors criticized ICE for its tactics, including detaining immigrants and deporting them to countries they have never been to before. They demanded the return of detained immigrants and the preservation of family unity.
“We demand the Liberty and complete return, the safe return of all those who’ve been disappeared by ICE,” said one protestor. “We demand the maintenance of the unity of our families. No more separation of our families.”
Members of the clergy read statements from families of the 2,000 Northern California immigrants they claim have been arrested since the beginning of the year.
Mothers at the rally shared emotional stories about their children being taken away by ICE. One mother expressed her heartbreak, saying, “I really miss my son. When Roberto was detained, they took a part of me. Since then, my heart is broken, hoping my son will return home.”
Protestors also criticized the lack of due process and the deportation of immigrants to what they described as ‘third world prisons.’
Despite ICE’s continued deportations, the protestors remain determined to fight against the policies until changes are made by the administration.
