The travel period will begin on August 29 at 6:00 a.m. and conclude on September 1 at midnight.
According to officials, troopers will implement high-visibility patrols and establish safety checkpoints throughout the Labor Day travel period to ensure safe travel across Mississippi roadways. They’re aiming to deter speeding and impaired or distracted driving, prevent fatal crashes and enforce seatbelt usage.
“This Labor Day weekend, as we celebrate the end of summer, let’s also remember to remain safe,” said Department of Public Safety Commissioner Sean Tindell. “Do not drink and drive, put your phones down while driving, and always wear your seatbelt. Let us also take a moment to thank the law enforcement officers and first responders who are working through the holiday to keep us safe.”
During the 2024 Labor Day holiday travel period, MHP investigated 155 crashes with seven of those being fatal. They also issued 740 citations for occupant restraint violations and made 122 DUI arrests.
