Man struck and killed in Gaston County crash: Troopers

GASTON COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A pedestrian has lost his life after a crash near the Eagles Walk area early Wednesday morning, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

Troopers say a man was walking on Patrick Road near NC-274 (Union Road) in the dark around 5:45 a.m. on Wednesday, August 27, when he was hit by a black van.

The man died from his injuries. Authorities have not publicly identified him. The driver of the van will not be charged.

The road was closed for several hours during the on-scene investigation, but Patrick Road reopened just after 8 a.m.
