Severe weather worries: The threat of showers and thunderstorms will increase by the end of the week. The most widespread rain will likely fall on Friday. We likely will see a few storms produce some rather strong winds, but organized severe weather is still looking unlikely. We will have to keep an eye on the chance of isolated pockets of heavy rain and the resulting potential for flooding.
As of right now, the Blend of Models shows that ten-day rainfall potential will be in the range of 2 to 3”. The latest 7-day outlook from WPC indicates that most of the area will receive 1 to 2.5”. Given how dry most of the ArkLaTex has been recently, the risk of flooding is looking rather low. If flooding issues develop, they will be isolated.
Tropical Worries: The tropics will remain quiet during the next week. However, long-range models are now starting to indicate that things could become more active out in the Atlantic during the middle of September.
Today’s Weather Worry Index: Our only real weather concern during the next ten days could come from the potential of heavy rain late this week. Storms on Friday could bring some gusty winds, but severe weather is looking unlikely. Consequently, today’s WWI will stay at 2 out of 10.
