According to the San Juan County Sheriff’s office, at around 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, a semi hauling 31 horses rolled over on the Lisbon Valley Road.
Det. Wyatt Holyoak and Deputy Amy Camacho who are part of the livestock team at the Sheriff’s office had to reach out to local ranchers to assist in rounding up all the horses.
The horses were transported to the fairgrounds while further arrangements could be made. Four horses passed away due to the crash, but thanks to the efforts by the local community, the rest were saved.
“This was a big operation for our county and without the help of our residents we wouldn’t have been able to pull it off,” the Sheriff’s office said in a post on social media.
The driver of the semi was uninjured during the crash.
