Newark Police Department officers responded to an assault near the 5600 block of Thornton Avenue at 11:36 p.m. on Aug. 19 and found a man suffering from multiple stab wounds. The victim was taken to a local trauma center and are now in stable condition.
The NPD SWAT Team arrested the suspect, Luis McLaughlin Jr., while serving a search warrant on the 5000 block of Civic Terrace Avenue Sunday.
The Alameda County District Attorney’s Office formally charged McLaughlin with one county of attempted murder on Monday.
“While no connection has been established between the victim and Mclaughlin Jr., the investigation indicates the incident was motivated by a desire for notoriety,” NPD said.
Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact NPD Sgt. Matt Warren.
