Monsoon moisture arrives bringing daily chances for showers and storms

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — Happy Monday, Utah! We have changes moving into the Beehive state this week, as monsoon moisture will continue to surge north across the state. This will bring increasing rain chances to the state, along with decreasing temperatures! Our Monday afternoon will feature a mix of clouds and sunshine, but scattered showers and storms will develop for the afternoon and evening hours.

Even though the showers & storms will be scattered Monday afternoon and evening, I would plan on some rain drops to move through your neighborhood. Highs will be at or below average Monday with 80s across north & central Utah, and 90s confined for far southern Utah.

A disturbance will work its way up from southern Utah through northern Utah on Tuesday, bringing a more widespread chance for showers & storms to develop across the state. The more widespread coverage and intensity of these showers and storms could lead to a slightly higher chance for flash flooding across parts of Utah. Highs will be below average due to the extra clouds and rain chances. Highs will only be in the low to mid 80s for northern Utah, with upper 80s for southern Utah!

Another disturbance will rotate across northern Utah on Wednesday, keeping fairly high rain chances in the forecast. The best chance for rain on Wednesday will remain across northern Utah. Still, plan showers & storms for any outside plans you may have for your Wednesday afternoon. Daytime highs will be below average with highs in the lower 80s for northern Utah, and lower 90s for southern Utah.

Later this week, rain chances will begin to dwindle as we lose our monsoon flow. Isolated showers and storms will remain possible through Friday, but we’re not expecting nearly the coverage or intensity of the early to midweek activity. Due to the drier conditions and more sunshine, temperatures will begin to warm near normal for the end of the week, and moving into the weekend.

We’ll keep you posted on the latest updates in our 4Warn Weather forecast both on-air and online, we are Good4Utah!

  • Monsoon moisture surges north
  • Scattered T-storms Monday afternoon
  • Showers & storms likely Tuesday-Wednesday
  • Flash flooding “Probable” for South UT rec. areas
  • Temps remain at or below average for highs this week
  • Drier and warming conditions late-week into the weekend
