TOPEKA (KSNT) – Someone in northeast Kansas just hit it big with a state lottery game after purchasing a lucky ticket on Monday.

The Kansas Lottery reports on its website that a Lucky 4 Life ticket worth $500,000 was sold on Aug. 25. The player matched five of the white balls but didn’t get the ‘Lucky Ball’ that would’ve netted the top prize in the lottery game, the odds of which are one in 1,813,028.

Winning numbers for Aug. 25’s Lucky 4 Life drawing were 1-4-12-17-20 with a ‘Lucky Ball’ of 6. The player can claim the second-highest prize in Lucky 4 Life which is the $25,000 a year for life or a cash option of $390,000. The top prize in the game is $1,000 a day for life which has a cash option of $5.7 million.

Kansas Lottery official Corey Thone told 27 News that both state and federal taxes apply to prizes like this. The player’s yearly prize payment would come out to $17,750 a year or a lump sum payment of $276,900.

The Aug. 25 Lucky 4 Life winner has 60 days to make a decision on whether to receive the yearly payouts or the single cash prize. The ticket was sold somewhere in the northeast area of the state which includes the following counties:

  • Brown
  • Doniphan
  • Riley
  • Pottawatomie
  • Jackson
  • Atchison
  • Geary
  • Wabaunsee
  • Shawnee
  • Jefferson
  • Leavenworth
  • Wyandotte
  • Johnson
  • Osage
  • Douglas
  • Franklin
  • Miami
  • Morris
  • Lyon (northern half)
