‘I deserve an invite to the wedding’: Swift, Kelce announce engagement 2 years after Jarrett Payton’s viral video captured them together for the 1st time

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce shook up the web on Tuesday with their engagement announcement, and WGN’s own Jarrett Payton took the opportunity to reminisce on the moment when he was among the first to capture the duo together in public.

Swift and Kelce made the major announcement in an Instagram post shared Tuesday morning, with the caption, “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.”

The big news caps two years of intense media speculation about the future of the two stars.

Some would argue that it was Jarrett Payton’s spotting of the the two together at a Kansas City Chiefs game that confirmed the duo’s relationship status to the world.

In the video captured by Payton on Sept. 24, 2023, Kelce and Swift could be seen walking side by side after the Chief’s blowout win against the Chicago Bears.

In his X post, Payton said “Talk about being at the right place at the right time! Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce leaving Arrowhead together after the game.”

Payton said that after taking it, a security guard asked him to delete the video, but he managed to save it.

The video went viral and by the next day, it had gathered over 15.8 million views.

Now two years later, following the major announcement, Payton reshared the video in a post congratulating the couple.

“I captured the first vid of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce together back in 2023. This vid literally broke the internet,” Payton said.

But Payton also used the opportunity to try and snag an invite to the wedding.

“Congrats to them on their engagement. I think I deserve an invite to the wedding. Just saying,” Payton said.
