Historic downtown Topeka inn for sale at almost $2.3 million

TOPEKA (KSNT) – The Woodward Mansion, as well as the other fourteen associated properties, are currently for sale in Topeka.

The Chester B. Woodward house was built in 1923 and has been on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places since 1992. This classical revival style castle-like chateau was originally designed by Kansas City architect firm Root & Siemens, known for several buildings across Kansas and Missouri, including Dyche Hall

at the University of Kansas.

The Woodward Mansion has only had four owners in it’s 102 years, serving as a hospice, wedding venue, bed & breakfast and event space over that time. It has also had events such as murder mystery dinners, brunches and hosted The Woodward Tea Club.

Featuring a two-and-a-half story library designed after the King Henry VIII Library at Hampton Hall in London, this building has appeared as a regular feature on programs like Best of the Midwest – Places to Stay by Midwest Magazine and the Kansas Travel Guide.

“The building comes fully furnished and operational,” said owner Elizabeth Taylor.
“After 30 years of ownership and managing, I’m just ready to retire.”

Taylor also said the architect of Topeka High School, Thomas Willamson, used the Woodward’s library as inspiration for the school’s library. She is selling the mansion for $2,295,000.
