two lots of dog and cat foods as it may be contaminated with salmonella and listeria monocytogenes. Both humans and pets are at risk of serious illness due to the recalled products.

The FDA reports the recalled products were distributed between July 2, 2025 and Aug. 21, 2025 to customers nationwide and to select retailers in New York, Kansas, California, Arizona, South Carolina, Illinois and Florida. The products come in frozen one pound bricks in clear vacuum packaging with the lot number printed on the top of the packaging.

The North Carolina Department of Agriculture identified the potential for salmonella and listeria contamination in the recalled products. Dog and cat food included in this recall can be found below:

  • Lot 21495
    • Viva Ground Beef for Dogs.
    • Viva Beef & Turkey for Puppies.
  • Lot 21975
    • Viva Ground Chicken for Dogs.
    • Viva Chunked Chicken for Dogs.
    • Viva Chicken for Cats.

Salmonella and listeria can cause people to experience symptoms like nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramps and fever, according to the FDA. In rare cases, salmonella and listeria can cause more serious health complications like arthritis, muscle pain, eye irritation and endocarditis. People who are especially at risk include young children, older adults and pregnant women.

Pets that have contracted salmonella and/or listeria may appear lethargic, have diarrhea, fever and vomiting, according to the FDA. Pets can spread salmonella and listeria to other animals and humans.

People who have purchased any of the recalled products are encouraged to contact Viva Raw by sending an email to info@vivarawpets.com or calling 919-371-8882 for a refund and throw away any of the remaining product while also keeping it out of reach of people, pets and wildlife. Pet owners should also sanitize anything that came into contact with the recalled product.
