Windows 11 24H2 and Windows 10 Hit by Severe Lag After Microsoft’s August 2025 Update

Windows 11 Version 24H2 (the “2024 Update”) is broadly available via Windows Update, with the final phase of the gradual rollout underway.

A range of known issues—with varying severity levels and workarounds—are documented below to help both end users and IT administrators manage update adoption.

Windows 11, version 24H2, also known as the Windows 11 2024 Update, is now in the final stage of its phased release.

Eligible Windows 10 and Windows 11 devices can manually check for the update under Settings > Windows Update > Check for updates.

Devices that meet system requirements and are not held by incompatibility checks will see “Download and install Windows 11, version 24H2.”

Home and Pro editions on versions 23H2, 22H2, and 21H2 will receive the update automatically, with users free to schedule or postpone restarts.

Copilot+ PCs will continue to receive new AI-powered features in controlled phases through the Windows Insider program and retail channels; availability may vary by hardware platform and region.

For immediate assistance with update troubleshooting, open the Get Help app on any Windows device or visit support.microsoft.com.

Detailed Issue Highlights

NDI Streaming Performance: Users report severe stuttering and choppy audio/video in OBS and other NDI-based tools after installing the August 2025 security update (KB5063878).

Microsoft recommends switching NDI Receive Mode to TCP or UDP via the NDI Tools settings as a temporary workaround.

WSUS Installation Error 0x80240069: Enterprise customers using Windows Server Update Services experienced failures when deploying KB5063878.

The issue has been resolved server-side; re-sync your WSUS server and approve the update again. A Group Policy rollback via Known Issue Rollback (KIR) had been provided, but is no longer necessary.

WUSA Shared Folder Failures: Installing .msu files from network shares containing multiple packages may trigger ERROR_BAD_PATHNAME.

Workaround: copy .msu files locally before installation.

A Known Issue Rollback will mitigate this for most devices, and a Group Policy is available for managed environments.

Family Safety Consent Prompt: Non-Edge browsers may not display the parental consent dialog when web filtering is enabled and Activity reporting is off. Enabling Activity reporting restores the prompt.

A full fix rolled out in July’s non-security preview (KB5062660).

Driver and Compatibility Holds: Devices with the sprotect.sys encryption driver or the Dirac Audio driver is blocked from receiving 24H2 until Microsoft and vendors resolve the underlying compatibility defects.

Similarly, certain cameras using object recognition and Intel Smart Sound Technology drivers trigger blue screens or hang and remain in safeguard holds.
