The fire so far has burned through 16 acres. Officials shared that as of Aug. 24, there are eight wildland firefighters and two helitack crew members on scene. A single-engine air tanker was also used to drop retardant.
According to the Bureau of Land Management, helitack crews are a critical first response resource, often the first on-scene when wildfires ignite. Transported by helicopter, these highly trained firefighters provide rapid initial attack, assess fire conditions, and support suppression efforts from both the ground and air.
Kolob Canyons Roads and all connecting trails are currently closed, but the visitor center, bookstore, and Kolob Terrace Road remain open.
