CHICAGO — A SWAT team responded to the city’s Austin neighborhood after a fatal shooting.

The incident happened just before midnight Sunday in the 4800 block of West Superior Street.

According to police, a 35-year-old woman and 25-year-old man were involved in a verbal altercation with a known man, when the offender took out a gun and opened fire on the victims.

Police said the man sustained gunshot wounds about his body and was transported to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The woman sustained a gunshot wound to the right flank and was transported to Stroger Hospital in serious condition.

The offender then fled into a nearby residence, at which time a SWAT incident was initiated, police said.

The SWAT ended a short time later after the offender turned himself in at the 15th District station. He was then placed into custody and charges are pending.

Area Four Detectives are investigating.
