Shreveport’s Brewtoberfest: Enjoy music, sports, and beer fun

SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) — The Shreveport Brewtober Beer Fest (Brewtoberfest) is coming back to Festival Plaza on October 18 for a day of music, entertainment, food, and most importantly, beer.

Brewtoberfest features a sampling tent with over 100 beers to taste. Ales, pilsners, IPAs, and stouts will all be available. There will also be two tents filled with Oktoberfest-style beers, domestic beers, seltzers, and wine, as well as sampling and a competition for homebrewers.

Sports fans concerned with missing football have nothing to worry about. There will also be a Sports Bar Tailgate Tent with college football on screens.

Louisiana Music Hall of Fame inductees Cowboy Mouth will bring their genre-bending sound as the headline musical act.

The first Oktoberfest took place in 1810 to celebrate the wedding of Crown Prince Louis and Princess Therese von Sachsen-Hildburghausen on the fields in front of the gates of Munich.

Since then, it has become a global event and the largest “Volkfest” (German for folk festival) in the world. An estimated 7.2 million people attended in 2023 and drank 7.4 million liters of beer.

Brewtoberfest is from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., while the tasting tent is open from 2:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. It is open to people 18 and older, offering non-alcoholic beers and beverages for non-drinkers, as well as those under 21.
