Rockford man receives 10-year sentence for fentanyl delivery causing fatal overdose
CRYSTAL LAKE, Ill. (WTVO) — Markeeon Neal, 31, of Rockford, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for delivering fentanyl to a man who died after using the drug.

According to McHenry County State’s Attorney Randi Freese, on March 11th, 2024, officers with the Crystal Lake Police Department were called to a home on Terra Cotta Avenue after a man became unresponsive after using the drug.

He later died of an overdose.

Investigators found that the victim had obtained the drug from a person who purchased the fentanyl from Neal.

Neal entered a negotiated guilty plea on the charge of unlawful delivery of a controlled substance.

In addition to his sentence, Neal has been ordered to serve a year of parole upon his release from prison.
