The owner of a stolen red trailer and tools, David Phillips, filed a stolen property complaint with LCSO just before 3 p.m. on Sunday.
In a news release Monday afternoon, LCSO announced that Darrell Smith, 54, was arrested around 3:40 p.m. on McWhorter Road. The department said it had received an anonymous tip that Smith had the trailer and tools there.
Smith told deputies that around 2 a.m. on Aug. 22, an unknown individual dropped the trailer and tools off at his home, according to an arrest citation.
In the citation, Smith admitted to the sheriff’s office that he knew he shouldn’t have had the trailer and tools, and he knew they were stolen. The items were estimated to be worth around $50,000.
He was booked into the Laurel County Correctional Center, LCSO noted, and charged with receiving stolen property worth $10,000 or more.
Court documents show he was arraigned Monday morning.
