Teen dies on scene of Boyd County crash
BOYD COUNTY, Ky. (WOWK) — A teen boy was pronounced dead on the scene of a crash in Boyd County Saturday night.

The Boyd County Coroner’s Office said in a Facebook post that they were called to the scene of a crash at the intersection of Friendship Road and Whites Creek Road around 9:40 p.m.

According to the preliminary investigation, 18-year-old Christopher “Howie” Raymond Wilks of Linda Circle, Catlettsburg, was driving on Friendship Road when their vehicle left the road and rolled over before stopping in a field. The vehicle caught fire during the crash.

Wilks was reportedly not wearing his seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene. His body is set to be transported to Frankfort for an autopsy.

The post said that Wilks was preparing to begin his senior year at Boyd County High School this week.

Kentucky State Police, Boyd County Sheriff’s Office and the Coroner’s Office are investigating the crash.

Other agencies that responded to the incident include the East Fork Fire Department, England Hill Fire Department, Big Sandy Fire Department, Boyd County EMS and Boyd County–Catlettsburg–Ashland Emergency Management.
