Officials from the Round Lake Fire Protection District said the incident occurred just after 5 p.m. Friday in an area located along Valentin Drive in suburban Round Lake.
According to officials, crews were first called to the scene following a report of a person trapped in machinery.
Crews made their way to the scene and quickly located the victim, who was suffering serious injuries after they became entangled in a piece of industrial equipment.
Given the complex nature of the incident, crews were forced to call in backup, including a medical helicopter and local paramedics, to provide medical care throughout the extrication.
The victim was eventually pulled from the machinery by 5:48 p.m. and quickly loaded onto the medical helicopter for transport to the hospital.
Currently, it is unclear what led to the incident or what kind of machinery was involved.
