A life-long Texas Rangers fan and local artist got the opportunity of a lifetime to share his art with the team he loves. Kameron Alexander is an Abilene artist who has done several works that include canvas paintings and mural work around the Big Country.
This past weekend, for the Major League Baseball Players’ Weekend, August 15-17, Alexander had the opportunity to watch as Rangers player Evan Carter came up to the plate and hit a home run using a custom bat that Kameron had painted for Carter. Alexander explained how lenient regulations for Players’ Weekend made it all possible.
“It’s kind of a charity thing and an opportunity for the players to kind of step outside of the regulation for equipment and stuff like that and do something custom that kind of tells their story or highlights a charity that they’re, you know, involved with,” Alexander said.
Alexander has painted many murals, including a large mural of a country music artist inside the Abilene hotspot Lone Star Dry Goods. Alexander explains that he will paint a new mural for Lone Star Dry Goods every couple of years on the exact canvas location inside their store with a new musical artist.
If the name Kameron Alexander sounds familiar, it may be because he is the son of the late long-time Abilene radio host, “Doc” Alexander, known for the Doc & Kelly morning radio show. Kameron shared that when he witnessed Evans hit a home run with the bat he had personally painted, it felt like a dream come true for him.
