SMITHVILLE, Ind. — Smithville’s biggest community tradition returns Sept. 1 as the Smithville Area Association hosts its annual Labor Day celebration at the Smithville Community Park.
The event, which runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 7555 S. Strain Ridge Road, has been a staple for more than 30 years. Proceeds support local community projects and outreach organized by the volunteer-run Smithville Area Association.
The day will feature the popular Cruisin’ Classics Car, Truck & Bike Show, which drew a record 235 entries last year. Registration runs from 8 a.m. to noon for $15 per vehicle, with awards presented at 3:30 p.m. in categories including Best Jeep, Furthest Traveled, and Participants’ Choice.
Live music begins at 10 a.m. with the Bloomington Brass Band, followed by Danny Todd at noon. At 2 p.m., the Yorktown-based bluegrass group The Last Minute, an award-winning band, will make its Smithville debut.
Food options start early, with breakfast available for purchase at 8:30 a.m. Lunch offerings will include cornbread and beans in the shelter house, alongside festival staples from local food trucks Shuckers Shak and Sugar Shack.
Other highlights include vendors selling handmade goods, children’s inflatables, and tours of the Smithville Historical Museum at Red Men Hall, which has undergone summer renovations with new community space and accessible restrooms.
Parking will be available at the former Smithville School and the adjacent baseball fields.
The celebration is free to attend, with food, crafts, and car show registration available for purchase.
