The new commercial building facade ordinance would amend ordinances passes in 1998 and 2007 and repeal an ordinance passed in 2022.
One of the big changes is allowing visible fasteners to be used which had previously been banned. Any denials by the Planning and Engineering Department can be appealed to the Planning Commission.
The landscape ordinance replaces the list of banned plants and instead has a link to a list of invasive plants identified by The University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture which cannot be planted.
The old ordinance requires a minimum of three feet of landscaping along the front and sides of the building. The new ordinance requires landscaping features to be incorporated into building sides that require a façade.
Both ordinances will come up for their second readings at the councils next meeting Sept. 4.
The council also approved a resolution naming of Matt Looney to the Advertising and Promotion Commission. He replaces Russell Tucker who has moved outside of the city limits. Looney is a manager at BassCat Boats.
