The Howard County Police Department said the shooting happened in the 7200 block of Montgomery Road in Elkridge. It involved a security guard and a man.
Preliminary investigations revealed that there was a physical altercation outside the Green Valley Marketplace around 12:40 p.m.
Police said the security guard confronted the man outside the marketplace. A second security guard saw the altercation and shot the man once.
The 30-year-old man and the 62-year-old security guard were both taken to the hospital and are in stable condition.
Police said the security guard’s head was injured. The second security guard who fired his gun was not hurt and is cooperating with police.
There is no ongoing threat.
Police are expecting to file assault charges against the man who assaulted the security guard.
