More than $120K in eyewear and clothing stolen across Charlotte; suspect charged

CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A man is facing several felony charges after being linked to a string of break-ins at local eyewear businesses and a clothing store, with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police reporting that he stole more than $120,000 worth of merchandise.

Jeffery Ervin Henderson has been charged with multiple counts, including felony breaking and entering, larceny after breaking and entering, and felony conspiracy. The thefts took place at various businesses across Charlotte between July and August 2025.

According to court documents, Henderson is accused of breaking into at least five Eye Care Center locations, along with Visionworks, Piedmont Eye Care, and the Gap Factory. The stolen goods primarily included sunglasses, eyeglass frames, and clothing.

Here’s a breakdown of what was taken:

  • Eye Care Center (multiple locations):
    • July 14: $4,000 worth of eyewear
    • August 7: $23,724 in sunglasses and frames
    • August 10: $13,721.35 in eyeglass frames
    • August 11: $11,250 in eyewear
  • Visionworks (South Boulevard):
    • August 13: 43 pairs of sunglasses worth $6,400
  • Piedmont Eye Care:
    • August 19: $70,000 in sunglasses and frames
  • GAP Factory (Providence Road):
    • August 6: $500 in clothing

CMPD said Henderson also worked with at least one other person in one of the incidents. The total value of stolen items from all locations adds up to nearly $130,000.

This case is due back in court in early September.
