CHICAGO — Felony charges have been filed against a Chicago man accused of attacking a transit employee at a West Side CTA stop on Thursday morning.

According to police, 23-year-old Amir Cordova, a Clearing resident, has been charged with several felonies, including aggravated battery causing great bodily harm, aggravated battery of a victim over 60 and aggravated battery of a transit employee.

Cordova has also been charged with one misdemeanor count of theft.

Chicago police say the charges stem from an alleged attack that unfolded on a CTA Blue Line platform at the Grand stop in West Town.

Officers said the victim, a 70-year-old man working for the CTA, was on the platform when he was allegedly attacked by Cordova.

Following the alleged attack, Cordova fled the scene, but authorities caught up with him just hours later in the 400 block of South Halsted Street, where he was taken into custody.

Currently, it is unclear what led to the alleged attack and authorities have not provided an update on the victim’s condition.

Cordova appeared in court for a detention hearing on Friday.
