In a Facebook post, the London Police Department said a K-9 sergeant assisted a Kentucky State Police trooper during a traffic stop around 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 20.
During the stop, K-9 Jett was reportedly released for a “free air sniff” of the 2011 Buick LaCrosse, where the dog “provided a conditioned response for the aroma of narcotics.”
Law enforcement then searched the vehicle, where they said two clear bags tied in a knot with a crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine were found inside a dollar store bag in the floorboard.
According to an arrest citation, two people were detained and agreed to speak with officers after being read their rights.
During the interview, 39-year-old Sammy Bowling allegedly claimed the meth was his.
Bowling was arrested and booked into the Laurel County Correctional Center, where he was charged with first-degree possession of a controlled substance—methamphetamine.
He is scheduled to appear in court at 11 a.m. on Aug. 26 for a court hearing.
