The tribute will take place outside the ballpark at Gallagher Way from 9:30 a.m. to noon.
Sandberg’s private funeral will be on the video board.
The Cubs icon died last month following a battle with prostate cancer.
“The Cubs organization is grateful for the continued support of Cubs fans and their expression of compassion during this difficult time,” said Cubs President of Business Operations Crane Kenney. “Beyond his family, Ryno’s great loves were spending time with teammates and other Cubs players and interacting with Cubs fans. We hope this public tribute provides everyone touched by Ryne’s incredible talent as a player and person an opportunity to honor his legacy and pay their respects.”
At Gallagher Way, the Cubs had Sandberg memorabilia set up for fans to honor, including many of his awards and some rookie baseball cards.
No ticket is required to attend. In lieu of flowers, the Sandberg family has asked participating fans to bring a nonperishable food item to Gallagher Way which will be donated to Nourishing Hope and Most Blessed Trinity Food Pantry.
Sandberg was a 10 time all-star, won the 1984 NL MVP Award, won the Gold Glove nine times and seven Silver Slugger Awards.
WGN News is streaming a “Remembering Ryno” special that will show his celebration of life at Old St. Pat’s Church Friday at 10 a.m. on-air, streaming online and on the WGN+ app.
