5 taken to hospital after Robbinsdale pursuit ends in crash

Five people were taken to a hospital early Friday morning after a police pursuit ended in a crash.

Robbinsdale Police Captain John Elder said it started when officers noticed a speeding vehicle and observed possible signs of impairment just before 2 a.m.

When police attempted a traffic stop, however, the vehicle fled and officers initiated a pursuit.

Eventually, after leaving the city, the vehicle came back into Robbinsdale and police attempted a PIT maneuver, which resulted in the suspect vehicle leaving the road and striking a tree.

Elder says the five people inside the vehicle were taken to a hospital for treatment of injuries. However, all are expected to be OK and no police officers were injured, either.

According to Elder, officers found narcotics and open alcohol containers inside the suspect vehicle.

The investigation remains active.
