Where Y’at this Weekend: Jazz Playhouse, Willie Mae’s NOLA, Ponchartrain Center, Midsummer Mardi Gras
NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The dog days of summer are upon us, as the kids head back to school and the heat and humidity continue. But there’s still lots to do in the Crescent City this weekend, from world class burlesque to a home-and-food show, and even a Carnival parade! Here are Where Y’at’s picks:
First, Friday night, Aug. 22, don’t miss Trixie Minx’s Burlesque Ballroom at the Royal Sonesta’s Jazz Playhouse. The evening is presented by Trixie Minx, a burlesque performer known for her vaudevillian comedy. Jazz singer Romy Kaye will provide the sultry tunes for the dancers.
Next, looking for a brunch spot before this Saturday’s Saints game, Aug. 23? Then make a reservation at Willie Mae’s NOLA, located just blocks from the Dome. In addition to their famous fried chicken, Willie Mae’s offers tasty brunch dishes including their chicken and beignets and breakfast cocktails.
If you’re looking to remodel, head to the Fall Pontchartrain Home Show on Aug. 23-24, for the latest in-home design and renovation. The show at the Pontchartrain Center will also feature the Langenstein’s Food Fest, with free samples and tastings.
Finally, on Saturday evening, Aug. 23, the Krewe of O.A.K. celebrates Carnival early, with its family-friendly Midsummer Mardi Gras parade. The fun starts on Oak Street at 6:30 p.m. with a group of over 1,000 marchers, including brass bands, the Muff-a-Lotta’s, and other Carnival krewes.
