(KRON) — A 28-year-old Pleasanton man has been charged with first degree murder in the shooting of his father, prosecutors announced on Wednesday.

Alameda County District Attorney’s Office said Lance Chan, 61, was shot by his son, Lucas Chan, on Aug. 15 inside the family’s home on Helpert Court. Chan was arrested by Pleasanton police at the scene.

An argument led to the shooting, police said. Lucas Chan was arrested and booked into the Alameda County Santa Rita Jail for homicide. It was not disclosed if any other family members were inside the home at the time of the incident.

According to Alameda County sheriff deputies, Lucas appeared to be in the process of making an explosive device before his arrest.

“It is further alleged that at the time of the arrest, the Alameda County Sheriff’s Explosive Ordinance Disposal Team found multiple explosive devices and substances and materials to make a destructive device inside the home, allegedly in possession of the defendant,” said the DA’s office in a news release.

Chan remains in custody and charges related to firing a gun could carry a longer sentence term, said the DA’s office. He also faces several charges tied to “possessing explosive devices in a home near populated locations”, said the DA.
