Officers say 24-year-old Joseph Mejia of Selma was arrested in Lake County on Wednesday. His arrest follows a collaboration between Selma Police detectives and the U.S. Marshals Office, after it was believed Mejia had fled the region.
Mejia was ultimately tracked to Lake County in northern California and arrested. Selma Police says he has been on the run for over a year and was wanted in connection with two attempted homicides and multiple felony firearm charges related to incidents from January 2024.
According to police, Mejia was involved in a shooting on the 2600 block of Whitson Street on Jan. 20, 2024. During that shooting, Mejia allegedly shot the victim and fled the scene.
Days later, officers report Mejia was also involved in another shooting on the 2000 block of Park Street, where he confronted a victim and shot them. He then fled the scene.
Mejia was booked into the Fresno County Jail.
